The history behind Wondershare Filmora

Wondershare initially released Filmora in 2015 under the name Wondershare Video Editor. Due to a huge success, they’ve chosen a more fitting name – Filmora. At the very beginning of this software, the targeted audience was limited to video enthusiasts and entry-level video makers.

Just a few years later they’ve realized Filmora has started to grow to something bigger and had created an entire community. It was the time they’ve split Filmora into 2 versions: Filmora and FilmoraPro. As the name implies, FilmoraPro was intended for professionals in the video content industry.

Filmora is one of the best and the most powerful video editing software in its niche. No other software can really compete with it in a price range between $80 and $200.

Ease of use without suffering the functionality was always the main goal of Filmora developers. You will always have the most modern set of tools to achieve your creative goals when working with Filmora.

While you may edit your video project equally well with any edition of Filmora, it is good to keep in mind that if you are aiming to achieve results similar to those when using something like Adobe Premiere Pro, it’s best to choose FilmoraPro.

If you are a beginner video editor, or, if you don’t need the entire set of features from the Pro version but do want to save quite some money, you will be fine with Filmora X.

Filmora X vs FilmoraPro. Are they really that different?

Let’s first have a short look at what both versions offer, and then, we can dive deep into comparison.

Filmora X

The latest major release of Filmora was named Filmora X (meaning 10 in Roman numerals). Compared to its previous Filmora9 version, this product has received a few more advanced tools that you will not find in similar programs.

Filmora X is a general-purpose video editor that works well for any kind of simple video editing as well as advanced video projects. Even if you are a complete novice to video editing and haven’t used any similar software before, you will feel at home in under 10 minutes.

This version can boast lots of templates for effects, elements, and transitions out of the box. Tools like Manual and Auto Color Enhancement, 3D LUT, and Vgngnette will add a lot to the professional look of your projects.

Finding a worthy rival to Filmora X for the price of less than $80 is going to be really hard in 2022.

FilmoraPro

FilmoraPro logo square

It was a successful attempt from Wondershare to create a budget alternative to the famous Adobe Premiere Pro. If you compare the user interface of FilmoraPro and Adobe Premiere Pro, you will find it very similar. Most of the widgets and keyboard shortcuts are actually replicated from Premiere Pro to FilmoraPro

If you are looking to achieve more in your video editing adventure, FilmoraPro will become a reliable companion. While it does not offer royalty free media library like Filmora X, you won’t need that for professional video making. Instead, you’re receiving much more effects, transitions, audio effects (that are not available at all in Filmora X).

FilmoraPro offers a wider variety of settings and adjustments, including detailed animations with keyframes (also available in Filmora X, but simplified).

If your goal is advanced video editing on a professional level – FilmoraPro will work better than Filmora X.

Filmora X and FilmoraPro free trial

Before we jump into a detailed comparison of both Filmora versions, you may want to get your hands dirty with both video editors. Unlike the other video editing software, Filmora comes with an infinite free trial for both Pro and X versions. The only limitation is that you will get a watermark on your exported videos.

This should not prevent you from estimating this software and allow you to have a much better idea of which one to choose. I also suggest you watch my video comparison between Filmora X and Pro below.

Filmora X main highlights and features

The User Interface of this version is designed for quick learning. Every sub-section within the Main widget is easy to access via big tabs with text and an icon. Titles, Transitions, Effects, and other tabs look identical when you switch between them. You can easily drag and drop any element to the timeline and it will get applied to your video.

Effects and transitions are available as templates that have a preview of what you will eventually get and are easy to grasp.

Something that you as a user of Filmora X will like, is, starting from this version Wondershare has added a few advanced tools from FilmoraPro to Filmora X. This includes the Advanced Color Correction, Color Match, Motion Tracking, and Freeze Frame. You will now have less desire to use FilmoraPro if these features were the most important for you but were missing in Filmora9.

FilmoraPro main highlights and features

The Pro edition of Filmora will bring your video editing experience up to a completely new level. Given that FilmoraPro is directly competing against Adobe Premiere Pro by providing identical tools and features for a much smaller price, you will not find a worthy rival for it.

Every widget in FilmoraPro can be moved and resized freely to make sure you can create your favorite layout. Everything here reminds Adobe Premiere Pro. Having said that, FilmoraPro went through a lot of processes to improve its usability. Learning to use this video editor is much faster than its more expensive counterpart from Adobe.

FilmoraPro vs Filmora X. A side-by-side comparison

After reading the article this far, you should have pretty much built an understanding of how the Pro version differs from X. FilmoraPro will generally have much more advanced features. However, Filmora X has some stuff that is not available in its Pro sibling.

Here comes the most important part of this article. We are going to put both Filmora products side-by-side and compare the main features.

Orange text– both programs offer identical feature with a good balance of price/quality.

Red text – a feature is not available at all in the current Filmora edition.

Green text – a feature is present in the current Filmora edition.

What is the best version of Filmora? Is it Filmora X or FilmoraPro?

The conclusion is pretty much the same as it was in my older article where I’ve been reviewing FilmoraPro vs the previous Filmora version – Fimlora 9.

For a professional video maker with significant experience and a clear understanding of what professional video editing software should look like, I’d recommend FilmoraPro. Especially, if you are going to do a lot of video editing. Even if you will need to spend some time learning FilmoraPro, it’s going to be worth it. Your creative expression won’t be limited to what Filmora X has to offer. Especially, since there are a lot of video tutorials available on YouTube for FilmoraPro.

On the other hand, if all you need is to quickly start creating professionally-looking videos without spending too much time learning while relying heavily on templates, Filmora X is going to be just enough for you. In case you are not familiar with a lot of video editing terminology, and really are just starting your video creation journey, then, just get Filmora X for now. You will also save some money compared to its Pro counterpart.
